The reopening of the passage

The Ever Given container ship has been partially refloated after being stranded in the Suez Canal for almost a week, authorities say, following an around-the-clock international effort to dislodge the massive vessel and reopen the global shipping lane. However, it may take some time to free it fully.

Mohab Mamish, the former head of the Suez Canal and Egyptian Presidential seaport adviser, told CNN Arabic that the canal is expected to be ready for passage by today. (cnn.com)

Amateur video that captures people’s reactions to the news, accompanied by applause, horns of boats and exclamations of joy: “God is great. The ship has floated.”

Ever Given vessel was definitely freed this afternoon, according to the Egyptian authorities. Traffic has resumed in Egypt’s Suez Canal after nearly a week.

According to reports from Lloyds List, it will take several days to move the more than 370 ships waiting to pass through the canal, including container vessels, tankers, and bulk carriers. Cargoes will arrive at their destination much later than expected and there may be congestion in the ports.
